First of all is important to say when a Dürr spittoon bowl valve is installed on a dental chair, also a selection valve must be installed.
A dental unit needs a selection valve when there are more chairs connected to a suction motor. This is to avoid a suction power loss, The spittoon bowl valve allows to do the same with the basin. THE SPITTOON BOWL VALVE FUNCTION
This valve activates the suction motor and opens itself when water is dropped in the spittoon. Very similar to the selection valve. in fact, both of them remain closed when they are not working.
This system, composed of these two valves, allows the joining of the liquids from the basin with the liquids from the suction cannulas in a unique tube.
THE SPITTOON BOWL VALVE PURPOSES
When do we install the spittoon bowl valve? When there is only a suction pipe at the dental unit base and there is not a drain pipe. In this case, the only way to dispose of the liquids is through the suction motor.
Or, when we want to have only one tube connected directly to the suction motor in order to separate the amalgam in the machinery room through the use of an amalgam filter. In this case, both liquids come from the basin and suction cannulas pass through the amalgam separator. On the contrary, if the basin of the dental unit is connected to a drain pipe the amalgam dropped in the basin will be not collected and it will be dispersed in the environment.
THE INSTALLATION
The technicians only have to connect the suction pipe and the two suction motor activation wires. The installation is very simple in this case. But, if you want to implement this system and you are building a new clinic, we suggest also placing a drain pipe at the chair base, just for the air drain of the dental chair or for a predisposition in case you want to change something in the future.
